Exciting fundraising update!

February 18th, 2011

Just a quick one to let you all know that plans for the fundraising event (and my birthday party) are shaping up nicely and you can now read about my headline auction lot on its own special page, here.

You can read more about the auction itself here.

The event, as well as including the fabulous charity auction, will have a pop quiz, raffle, and tons of opportunities for you to part with your lovely money in aid of my fundraising for the British Heart Foundation. I’m now almost at the £1,000 mark!

Everyone is welcome to come to the party – the more the merrier! Here are the details.

See you there!

A run wot I done

February 16th, 2011

So, I didn’t blog about my Sunday run, did I? *slaps self on wrist*

Turns out I ran almost 13 miles, to Battersea Park on a slightly longer route than last week. In fairness, I don’t think I’d take that route again, because it led me through some fairly bleak parts of Vauxhall. I also need to work out how to avoid the tourists by the London Eye and Westminster. I love running down the river, but dodging people just standing about without taking notice of what’s going on around them is beginning to wear a bit thin.

All the way to Chelsea

February 6th, 2011

So, I signed up for this thing called RunKeeper, via a clever little application (I abhor the use of the abbreviation “app”) on my phone (yes, it was Martin’s idea).

It tracks your route via GPS satellites and then records your route, how long it took you, your average pace per mile, and calories burned. It’s quite amazing. You can see the route I did this morning by clicking here. Read the rest of this entry »

Vauxhall & I…

February 2nd, 2011

So, after a mega Marathon day on Saturday, and DJing the wedding party of my lovely friends Phil and Kerry (aka Mr and Mrs Hinchcliffe) on Saturday evening, I arose on Sunday with the daunting prospect of a 90 minute run ahead of me. Reader, I will be honest: I procrastinated a bit. My aim was to go out at 9am. I finally made it out at 9.50am, but made it out I did.

New trainers on my feet, I went off in my usual direction, wondering how far I might get in 90 minutes. I had a fanciful idea that I might make it as far as Vauxhall. Read the rest of this entry »

A Marathon weekend

February 2nd, 2011

Gosh, has it really been over a week since my last post? I’m sorry for being so naughty. Will you let me off if I tell you I’ve barely had time to BREATHE over the past few days?

On Saturday I attended a brilliant event put on by the Virgin London Marathon, entitled “Meet the Experts”. The range of speakers was excellent – speaking on a range of subjects including avoiding injury, nutrition, what will happen on the day, fundraising, the lot. I also had a gait analysis done by the lovely people at adidas, which revealed that I’ve been wearing the right trainers, but didn’t stop me buying a new pair in PINK (well, it was 30% off, what’s a girl to do?). It really, really, really could happen

January 24th, 2011

Yesterday, I went on the second “long run” from my training programme. The aim was to keep running for 80 mins continuously, allowing myself 5 mins to walk every 30 mins if I needed to.

I set off at 9.10am and ran along my usual route: up to Borough, round the back of the Tate Modern, and along the South Bank. My aim was to get as far as Westminster Bridge, then cross the bridge and come back the other side. However, when I got to Westminster Bridge, I’d very naturally found my pace, and felt as if I could have kept going forever. So, I decided to see if I could make it as far as Lambeth Bridge. Me, running the London Marathon? An unlikely story…

January 21st, 2011

No-one is more surprised than me to find that, on 17 April 2011, I shall be running the actual London Marathon, to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. My fundraising target is £2,ooo, and thanks to the amazing generosity of friends and family, I’m already well on my way to achieving that goal. The purpose of this blog is to keep my supporters informed as to how it’s going, so that they know that they’re getting value for money! Also, of course, to raise awareness of the work of this amazing charity, and how I’m trying to raise funds for them (as if running 26 miles weren’t enough!). Read the rest of this entry »
